Bill did his undergraduate degree in instrumentation and control engineering at the University of Cambridge, England. He then conducted his PhD studies in systems biology at Harvard University with Adam Cohen and Sean Megason, where he developed approaches to image and control electrical activity of developing cardiomyocytes in live zebrafish embryos and established the timing mechanisms underlying the first heartbeats.

Lingling received her PhD in Pathology and Pathophysiology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where she investigated the physiological functions of lactate transport in skeletal muscle and demonstrated the essential role of lactate in maintaining mitochondrial function. She subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in neurometabolism at Gladstone Institutes, expanding her expertise into neuronal metabolism and neurodegeneration. Her research aims to integrate diverse cutting-edge technologies with her background in physiology, pathophysiology, and metabolism to uncover the mechanisms underlying cell development and neuromuscular junction biology.
